Beware the Schmoop Monster
Mar. 12th, 2005 12:45 pmBecause I'm at work and bored and nothing's going on, I just wrote a silly ficlet. Having a bit of fun as Cordy, Wes, and Angel spend an evening watching an oldie but a goodie. Season 1, rated G.
"Something in your eye, Wes?" Cordy asked Wesley, a teasing grin on her face.
"Um, perhaps, yes." Wesley turned his face away and sniffed, brushing the edge of one eye with his fingers.
Cordy started at the sudden trumpeting sound of Angel blowing his nose on the other side of her.
"Angel?"
Angel's eyes were liquid and sad like a puppy's. "What?"
Cordy glared at him in amused disbelief.
"What? Those hot wings were really spicy." Angel mumbled in reply.
Cordy wasn't fooled. "We finished off the hot wings fifteen minutes into the movie, mister. You're saying you had a delayed reaction? Look at you two! Crying like babies over some old fluffy movie!"
"What crying?" Wesley's voice was slightly muffled as he was trying to discreetly wipe his nose with his handkerchief.
"The tears and sobbing and sniffling over Miss Ellie remembering her Mama!" Cordy said.
"The actress's name is Barbara Bel Geddes. And I did not sob." Wesley declared. "However, I was somewhat touched by the scene with the injured cat, and how the little girl thought... thought her mother had saved-" *sniff* "saved its life and that she could do-" *sniff* "anything." Wesley turned his face away again and buried it in his handkerchief.
Cordy gawked at him.
"And the bit with the hospital, when she snuck into the children's ward, so she--she could sing her child a lullaby and she wouldn't be alone--" Angel said as his expression fell and his eyes filled with fresh tears.
Cordy looked back and forth at the manly demon hunters on either side. Angel was now sobbing into Cordy's shoulder and Wes was crying into his no longer stiffly-starched hankie.
Cordy turned off the TV and stood up. "Okay, that's it. You guys are really freaking me out. Next time we'll go with your suggestions and watch something with lots of fighting and guns and explosions. I'm going home. 'Night guys." Cordy grabbed her purse and stomped up the stairs.
When Angel knew she was out of earshot he looked up at Wes and smiled. "She bought it!"
Wes grinned as well and returned his hankie to his pocket. "An award-winning performance indeed! I think it's safe to say that at our next classic movie night we'll be enjoying our hot wings and popcorn in the company of John Wayne or Sean Connery."
They both laughed in triumph. When the laughter died away Wes said, "You know, that wasn't a bad movie, actually. I was moved by the part where they watched the little boy who had the bad knee finally running," Wesley paused as he thought about the scene, "and everyone found out that the uncle had spent all his money to... to help sick children!" Wesley began to sniff in earnest.
Angel looked at him solemnly, "Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about that."
Just as it looked as if Wesley had regained his composure he said softly, "And I did like the scene with the cat," and burst into real tears.
"The poor cat!" Angel sobbed as they comforted each other with a hug.
The movie they watched is "I Remember Mama", which is one of my favorites and I have to admit I become a blubbering mess everytime I watch it. It's so sweet!!

I imagine you could find it any other place that sells or rents classic films on DVD. It really is quite good.
