For my Flistians in the U.S., don't forget that this year you are entitled to a free credit report from each of the three credit reporting agencies. No, this isn't one of those "free" reports you get only if you buy some company's ID protection service for a year or whatever, this is the real deal brought to you by the FTC:

Persons in every state but those in the Northeast (those will be available in September) can now request a free copy of their credit report every 12 months. It's very easy to do online. I recommend everyone take advantage of this. If you think your credit is good you need to check to make sure there aren't discrepancies in your reports. If you know your credit is bad and think it would be too depressing to look at, you should still do so to make sure there aren't errors that make it look worse than it really is. If you don't have a clue, you really really need to do this to see what's being reported about you.

I think they did the region by region thing to keep the credit agencies from getting bombarded with requests all at once. I heard about this months ago and this month was I finally eligible to request mine. September isn't too far away.

Mississippi finally became available this month so I got mine this week. It's so easy and it's nice to put my mind at ease, at least as far as my credit rating is concerned.
