This is gonna be fun!

I am very pleased about this. The Doctor's new companion revealed!

You know, before I saw The Runaway Bride this news would have pissed me off because I've never been a big Catherine Tate fan. But she kicked ass as Donna, and I think she's going to be lots of fun. Fiesty, and bitchy, and flighty, and--here's the thing I really love--she's not a TEENAGER! She's near my age! I was worried they'd put yet another cute young thing in the Tardis (not that I don't love Rose or Martha, but one pretty young girl after another is a bit much), or, heaven forbid, a kid *gag*Adric*gag*. So cool!

My only request is that she doesn't fall for him like Rose and Martha did. That aside, I'm dead chuffed at this news - she'll be wonderful in driving him up the wall whilst actually being (hopefully) mature enough to offer some tough home truths when needs be :)

I'm thinking of a good old Tegan/Five vibe going on there. Lots and lots of snark. Win!!

one pretty young girl after another is a bit much

It's been (with a few exceptions) one pretty young girl after another since 1963, so I'm used to it.

But oh, yes, I *love* this news.

I didn't watch the episode The Runaway Bride in full, only caught the end of it, but my reaction to both that and this news?

"Aw crap, I'm gonna hate Doctor Who again".

Because ever since "am I bovvered?" I have loathed her.

But maybe she is less annoying than I think she is?

I don't like a lot of the characters on her show (and I think a lot of her recurring schtick gets old fast), so when I found out she was going to be in The Runaway Bride I cringed, but she was fabulous as Donna.

I was thinking they'd go with a male companion for a change, but still a young actor. I like this direction though. Yay!

HELL YES. And? She's got a normal woman's figure and is not a twig, and they have hilarious fun chemistry.

Luckily I've only seen the Comic Relief sketch. I'm sure that stuff gets old fast.

But also? If Donna ever met Jack. Ahahahahaha. ::snort::

Exactly! And it's going to be fun to have a companion who isn't all gooey crushy on the Doctor and believing he hung the moon (although being the Doctor he very well could have, but you know what I mean). :D

Every once in awhile her show has made me laugh, but a good bit of the time it falls flat. A lot of the recurring characters she does aren't funny after the first couple skits, but some of the one-offs can be funny. They show it on BBC America sometimes, if you get that.

Honestly? I rewatched "The Runaway Bride" after hearing of the news and she's rather delightful by the end. I think the way she talks, she could really begin to CHANGE the Doctor. To show him how merciless he is sometimes. S3 was the first step: he began to forgive, to show his weaknesses. Perhaps S4 we will see a companion that changes him to stop his "no second chances" attitude.

The more I think about it, the more I think that they could be, well, magnificent.

I love Donna. So happy about this news. I think David & Catherine have a great on screen presence together and...I AM FULL OF GLEE.

I am so beyond EXCITED by this news, I am beside myself.

Here is someone to be his FRIEND, when really he needs it most. No romantic entanglements, her honest and (loud) voice just there, true.
